It is the present day. Bodyn Robotics Corporation makes the most advanced robots on the planet. Their most ambitious project to date is the creation of a 4-legged walking robot, affectionately known as “BigDog.” In the absence of wheels or tracks, BigDog will be able to traverse the roughest forest, desert or jungle terrain and follow any path that a person can. It will carry heavy loads, follow or guide as required and if necessary it will even protect its master.
After four long years of research, Chief Engineer Devin Blake and his mentor Dr. Marc Playter have perfected the mechanical platform, but their ability to control BigDog and make it walk is failing badly. Now with the help of Prostheticist Ivi Andrews and her Hyperhaptic link, Devin has found a new approach to put himself “in the loop.” What will be the result of this new hybridization of man and machine? And will there be others outside Bodyn who would exploit this new link for their own greedy and nefarious purposes?
Find out in Issue #1 of "The BigDog Chronicles."
The BigDog Chronicles is a graphic novel series based on the real-world robotics of Boston Dynamics' Big Dog quadruped robot, and the ficticious adventures of the roboticist who decided to be "in-the-loop".
Here's a video of the real Big Dog in action.
